Closure of The Algernon Trust on 30th September 2015

Owing to the difficulties the Founder Jane Shepherd has experienced since the death of her husband Melvin in September 2013, it has been decided to close down the Algernon Trust on 30 September.

Sadly there is no one to take over from Jane and the trustees have voted for the closure of the Trust. Jane is enormously grateful to Animals in Need in Little Irchester who have offered to take over all the rehomeable cats and dogs as well as taking responsibility for previously adopted animals should any need to return into care. All the dogs in boarding kennels have been moved to Pine Tree Farm and the remaining cats and dogs will be transferred over the next few weeks as space becomes available. Jane will help out by looking after any returned cats and dogs until Animals in Need have room for them. She will continue to care for the elderly cats currently at the Sanctuary plus the foxes and two of the Trust dogs. Cats and dogs in long term foster care will remain Jane's responsibility.

Any Trust income remaining at 30 September will be transferred to Animals in Need to cover the costs incurred by the Trust animals taken over. Jane hopes Trust supporters will also support Animals in Need, a Rescue with the same ethics and policies as the Algernon Trust.

Jane wishes to thank all the Trust's volunteers, supporters and trustees who have helped her rescue and care for animals since the Trust was set up in August 2001. Jane and Melvin had saved domestic and wild animals since 1989 and 30 September will be a very sad day indeed.

They are beautiful dogs who are bonded & ideally are looking for a home together.  They are friendly, although Florrie can be a little snappy so they are looking for a home without children & no cats as we don’t know how they are with cats.  They are currently staying in boarding kennels in Northamptonshire.  Adoption subject to homecheck & adoption fee

Zara

(Transferred to Animals In Need)

Zara has been transferred to Animals in Need for rehoming, this is a great opportunity to increase her chance of finding a forever home - anyone interested in offering Zara a home, wishing to follow her progress or donate to her care whilst she is waiting should contact Animals in Need directly here www.animals-in-need.org/maxicare

Zara's home trial has not worked out, she will need a lot of support in adjusting to regular home life and will need a very calm home.  7 year old Zara is a German Shepherd, she has come into our care after her terminally ill owner had to move to a hospice.  Sadly as the health of her owner deteriorated she has lost her usual routine and not been used to regular routines for some time.  She will initially need firm boundaries to help her settle back into a routine of home life.  She has not lived with dogs previously, although this could be considered with an experience home.  She is not used to children and isnt known with cats.  Zara is currently staying at the Sanctuary.  Adoption subject to homecheck and adoption fee.

Billy (Billy is rehomed)

4 year old Billy is a lovely, friendly chap, he pulls on the lead but knows basic commands and is very well behaved. He seems to be ok with other dogs and isn’t known with cats. He is looking for a foster or forever home & is currently staying in kennels.  Here is a short video clip of Billy http://youtu.be/O0QT1WGs-Ak & .http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZ39JtAsKB0

Skipper is thought to be around 5 years old and is a very affectionate Staffordshire Bull Terrier. He has had a rough time judging by the sores and bald patches that were on him when he first arrived into our care. Remarkably he is still an incredibly loving dog and he really enjoys his home comforts and likes to be warm! He is good with other dogs but would probably prefer not to share his humans.  His training is to a good level, he is clean in the house and knows his commands, he is good on & off the lead.  He does get excited when people visit & is currently receiving training to stop his jumping! He is no problems left home when his foster carer goes out & will happily find a warm spot to curl up & watch her whilst gardening etc!  His favourite walk is along the river bank where he loves to explore & leap around, it is thought that he would really enjoy & be good at agility. He is currently staying in a foster home in Northamptonshire where he has progressed hugely both physically and behaviourally & he is now ready to find a forever home to call his own. Adoption subject to home check and adoption fee.

Cats & Kittens Looking For Homes (August 2015)

For further information about adopting any of these cats / kittens,
please call the relevant contact numbers as specified within the details.

Please note that all adoptions are subject to a home check and an adoption fee

Kittens cannot be homed singularly unless in a home where a youngish cat already lives. We cannot home kittens with very young children, preferably not under 4 years old. Adopters must also agree to neuter kittens at 5 months old which has to be confirmed by a vet.
All cats or kittens cannot be adopted in a home on/near a busy road.

Molly

Molly is a lovely female tabby born in 2006, who needs a new home as her owner moved and could not take her. She is a timid girl but very sweet and friendly when she gets to know you. Molly would love a nice quiet home and is alright with the other cats at the sanctuary. She is chipped and neutered and enjoys both indoor and outdoor life. Adoption subject to home check and adoption fee. Please contact Penny on 01327 310945 (please leave a message if not available).

Jewel & Raven  *have been adopted*

Jewel & Raven came into our care following an appalling case of cruelty. They both had kittens, which their owner killed and then they were thrown out onto the street. Jewel is a very beautiful tortoiseshell and Raven her sister is a lovely all black female, they are approximately 6-8 months old. Both sisters have a tight bond, they lick each other and sleep together, so they must be homed together. They will both be chipped and neutered as soon as it is safe to do so, but they can be seen and reserved. These sweet little girls are looking for the loving home they so rightly deserve, especially after being treated so badly. Jewel and Raven are currently being fostered near Daventry. Adoption subject to home check and adoption fee. Please contact Penny on 01327 310945.

Socks

Beautiful Socks is around 4 years old, she has been with her current owners since she was a kitten, straight away they noticed her behaviour was different from previous cats they'd had and the vet advised that Socks was most likely born feral or semi feral.  Having followed all advice given, as she's grown older, Socks has become less and less comfortable around people and more aggressive towards them. It is thought that she would be happier in a yard or stable environment where she is able to have more space and keep a comfortable distance from the humans who keep her safe! She is neutered and currently living in Greatworth. Adoption subject to home check and adoption fee. Please call Lisa on 07764 219991.

Polly *has been adopted*

Due to allergies in the family Polly came into our care with Ziggy, who has been adopted separately as they had no close bond. She is a black female born in September 2009. She is very affectionate and can be very vocal with her greetings when she runs up to meet youNow that she has settled in at the sanctuary she is fine with the other cats and doesn't seem bothered by the dogs when they walk past. Polly is an adorable, chatty, very fussy and friendly girl. She has also been very good with the children she has met and would make a lovely family pet. She is neutered, chipped and vaccinated. Adoption subject to home check and adoption fee.

Shadow

Shadow is a very sweet little girl born in 2011. She came into our care last August, as a stray with a very bad skin allergy and hardly any fur. Since then she has been treated and her fur has re grown apart from her tail which is slowly improving. She is an adorable very friendly little cat and has a very loud purr, almost like a rattle! Shadow is chipped and neutered, and now being cared for by Animals In Need, please call 01933 278080. Adoption subject to home check and adoption fee.

Mickey & Minnie

Mickey and Minnie are 1 year old brother and sister. They are both black and white, and are the most adorable, friendly cats, who love fuss and thoroughly enjoy sitting on your lap. They need a home together and though they have lived with other cats, they would prefer to be the only cats in the household. They haven’t previously lived with dogs or children. They are both now chipped, neutered and will be fully vaccinated. They are currently being fostered in Daventry.  Adoption subject to home check and adoption fee. Please contact Sarah on 07811 636385.

Minnie came in to our care pregnant and had three adorable kittens -
Basil, Sybil & Ellie have now gone together to their lovely new home*

If you are interested in adopting kittens, one of our shop customers has a female cat who recently had 5 kittens, four of which are looking for homes. They are now 7 weeks old and we are just waiting for details and pictures. Please note: kittens can only be homed in pairs unless the home already has another cat/s. Please contact Sarah on 07811 636385.

Mowser

Mowser is a very sweet black short haired female, born in 2005, who came into our care as a stray. She is currently staying at the Trust and would love a new home. A home without young children would be preferred. Adoption subject to home check and adoption fee.
Please contact Penny on 01327 310945 (please leave a message if not available).

Taz & Onyx

Taz came into our care with his mum Onyx due to their owner being unable to find pet friendly accommodation. Taz who is dark brown, is a long haired male born in late 2008, he is a friendly boy, loves a fuss and is very vocal! Onyx born in 2007 is very dark brown almost black, she was rescued by her previous owner as she was being used as a breeder. She is said to be a Burmese but possibly of the American strain, she is friendly once she gets to know you and loves being a lap cat. They both like to go outdoors but have not been used to a cat flap. Taz and Onyx have previously lived with dogs and are alright with children. They are neutered, chipped and vaccinated, and are now being cared for by Animals In Need, please call 01933 278080. Adoption subject to home check and adoption fee.

Archie & Pippa *have been adopted*

Archie and Pippa were born in July 2014 and are very friendly, affectionate purry cats! Archie is grey and white and Pippa black and white. They have come into our care due to an allergy in the family and are looking for a home where they can stay together. They have been used to living with children of all ages from toddlers to teens, though we feel they may be happier living with older children only as Pippa is a little bit timid. They are neutered, chipped and vaccinated, and are now being cared for by Animals In Need, please call 01933 278080. Adoption subject to home check and adoption fee.

Tippy

Tippy came in to our care with his mum Duffy and his brother and sisters after being found as strays in Towcester. The Kittens were born in April 2014 and Tippy who is a black and white male with a white tip to his tail (hence his name!) is the only one who has not yet been adopted. He needs a home with no other cats, and as he is quite timid, no young children. Ideally he would like a rural home where he can do his own thing! He is chipped, neutered and vaccinated, and now being cared for by Animals In Need, please call 01933 278080. Adoption subject to home check and adoption fee.

Snowball *has been adopted by his fosterer*

Snowball was born in July 2013, he is a pure white neutered male. Very timid and will need time to adjust to a new home. When he is feeling secure (generally in the evening) he is very friendly and has a loud purr. He is chipped, neutered and fully vaccinated and needs a quiet home without children. He loves to spend a lot of time outside and does like hunting so a home with plenty of outdoor space or a small holding would be ideal for him. Snowball does have a slight heart murmur and is currently being fostered near Daventry. Adoption subject to home check and adoption fee. Please contact Penny on 01327 310945.

Ace

Ace, born in 2006, is a very petite black female with a fleck of white on her chest.  She is a bit nervous and easily scared, and doesn't like loud noises especially the hoover. Occasionally she enjoys a cuddle on your lap whilst purring and likes to be stroked when she can see your hands. She loves dry food and some jelly food especially chicken flavour, and she loves stick treats! Ace also loves cat nip as it makes her go funny and she likes to play with her toys a lot when they have cat nip in them! She is a little bit frightened of other cats so needs to find a quiet home with no other pets or children. Ace is now being cared for by Animals In Need, please call 01933 278080. Adoption subject to home check and adoption fee.

Willow *has been adopted*

Willow is a pretty little black female who has come into our care having been found as a stray in Milton Keynes. She is neutered and chipped and approximately 4 years old. She is not keen on other cats, but she is a friendly, though slightly timid, little girl. Willow is currently staying at the Trust.  Adoption subject to home check and adoption fee.
Please contact Penny on 01327 310945 (please leave a message if not available).

Nala

Nala is a very beautiful grey tortoiseshell born in July 2011. She is looking for a new home as her owner didn't want her any more after the arrival of a new dog. She is a lovely very friendly girl and although initially she wasn't keen on the other cats she is now fine with them. We feel she would only be suitable with older children as she loves being stroked but does let you know when she's had enough! Nala is chipped and neutered, and is now being cared for by Animals In Need, please call 01933 278080. Adoption subject to home check and adoption fee.

Diva *has been adopted by her fosterer*

Diva is a lovely black and white female born around June 2013. She is quite nervous and very timid so she needs a nice quiet home without children. She is neutered, chipped and vaccinated. Diva is currently staying in a foster home near Daventry and likes the fosterer's dogs and is fine with non aggressive cats. Adoption subject to home check and adoption fee. Please contact Penny on 01327 310945.

Lester  *is being Long Term Fostered by his fosterer*

Lester came into our care with Lainie after being tragically found dumped, both in a very bad state, in a cardboard box in Daventry. Lainie very sadly passed away after a short illness. Lester is a white male who came in very thin but he is slowly putting on weight. He is a lovely cat, we think he is approximately 8 years old and most likely Lainie was his sister. He is neutered and chipped and currently being fostered in Potterspury. Lester is being treated for hyperthyroidism and we think after everything he has been through, he deserves and would dearly love a warm and loving new home. He is not keen on other cats so a nice quiet home as the only pet would be ideal. Adoption subject to home check and adoption fee. Please contact Sarah on 07811 636385.

Almo

Almo is an adorable Peterbald cross born in 2012. He is very affectionate, loves to be cuddled and sit on your lap. He isn’t too keen on being picked up, but never scratches or bites. He needs a fosterer or new home with no other pets or young children as he has lived in two previous very busy households and has issues with inappropriate messing, advised by the vets to be due to stress. He will therefore need patience and understanding. Almo is neutered and chipped and currently staying near Bicester. Adoption subject to home check and adoption fee. Please contact Sarah on 07811 636385.
